Medical and Research facilities present many concerns and challenges due to the wide variety of seeing conditions that take place in these spaces. Color appearance, daylighting integration & control, potential flicker, horizontal and vertical illuminances, luminances of room surfaces and modeling of faces and objects are primary considerations for lighting quality. Higher illuminances from localized task lighting needs to be introduced in surgery, dentistry, ER treatment and trauma rooms. Because the lighting must also be comfortable, differences in brightness ratios should be reduced through a combination of lighting and room surface finishes.
