Civic Spaces
Public use facilities usually require a firm adherence to government mandated energy and sustainability guidelines since they are maintained with public funds. Therefore, lighting systems in these spaces requires a minimum of different lamp types to ease maintenance issues during relamping as well as the use of long life sources to reduce the number of these changes. Energy efficient equipment is necessary to primarily reduce power consumption of the lighting as well as the heat it produces, which impacts the amount of energy required for cooling. In conjunction with these criteria, a grand sense of scale and finish is usually desired, making the design challenge multidimensional in providing for the functional and aesthetic requirements of these spaces.
